US Vice President Kamala Harris left the Joint Base Andrews military installation in Maryland on Sunday aboard Marine Two after an armed intruder was caught trespassing.

A vehicle allegedly disobeyed orders at a security checkpoint at the base at 9pm on Sunday, before two unnamed people fled on foot. Subsequently, an armed person was arrested; However, the other person has not yet been found.

“We can confirm that the person arrested had a firearm, but no shots were fired,” Joint Base Andrews said in a statement, adding that this was “not a situation of active fire".

In an update released later on Sunday, the base said a "thorough search" should be conducted if the second intruder is not detected.

According to local news, Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff departed the base aboard Marine Two. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan reportedly traveled with Harris and were also evacuated from the base .
